Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for design and development of complex Firmware.
  • Produce high quality design, development and implementation documentation including specifications, reports, and proposals.
  • Implement Firmware in accordance with required coding standards.
  • Engage in the multiple-discipline review of items (documents, design, code, schematics, etc.).
  • Integrate Firmware with other system components (Software or Hardware) and resolve any issues either by Firmware modification or by contributing positively to resolution by other disciplines.
  • Multi-task appropriately to serve needs of all projects.

Experience needed:

  • Ideally qualified to degree-level or equivalent experience in a Physics or Engineering based subject, such as; Electronics, Hardware, Computer Science, Software or Systems Engineering etc.
  • Fully Proficient in the full life cycle Firmware development demonstrated on more than one project.
  • Fully Proficient in Firmware development using VHDL.
  • Good understanding of engineering methods and techniques and applies and adapts these as necessary to create solutions.
  • Proven experience with Engineering design methodologies. For example, the 'V' Model - Requirements, architecture, detailed design, Implementation, Integration, Test, Validation & Verification.
  • Knowledge of signal integrity and bit error rate issues within digital systems.
  • Ability to design for synchronous and asynchronous systems. For example System Synchronous, Source Synchronous and Asynchronous systems.
  • Experience in FPGA design ideally using AMD/Xilinx UltraScale+ FPGAs.
  • Proficient in Verification
  • Good knowledge of FPGA EDA tools and tool flow
  • Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing techniques and design for implementation in FPGA
  • Experience of revision control systems such as git

Desirable:

  • Experience in Digital Electronics and Digital Logic Design.
  • Experience of schematic design using Altium or similar.
  • Experience of working with embedded Linux.
  • Experience in Electronic Warfare development
  • Experience in the Defence / Aerospace or safety regulated environment would be advantageous.
  • Proficient in the use of industry standard communications protocols associated with communication interfaces (UARTs, USARTs, SPI, I2C, TCP/IP, UDP)
  • Experience in designing with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR4 RAM, 10/40/100G Ethernet, Aurora etc.
  • Experience of working with System on Chip FPGAs such as AMD/Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+
