Project Accountant

Our client, one of the world leaders in ship-to-ship transfers and a major supplier of premium quality marine products around the globe, are currently seeking a Project Accountant to join their team.

This is a full-time permanent position, based in Inchinnan.

The working hours are Monday - Thursday 8:00 - 16:45 and Friday 8:00 - 12:30.

37.5 hours per week.

Job purpose:

The successful candidate will ensure the accurate and timely reporting of project actual and forecast financial performance. You will also ensure there is robust challenge of actual and forecast costs to drive continuous cost improvement.

As the Project Accountant, you will implement Cost Management best practices consistently across all projects, proactively identify cost variances and risk areas and mitigations to Project Managers, and assist delivery of project & customer requirements in a cost effective manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of project baseline budget and EAC reforecasts in collaboration with the Project Team
  • Perform Value of Work Done (VOWD) assessments through project life, compare to planned progress, identify and mitigate slippage and escalate issues to management
  • Providing forecast project revenue and margin information for quarterly forecasts and annual budget process
  • Conduct cost variance analysis and sensitivity analysis and identify opportunities, risks and mitigations where available to the Project Manager
  • Ensure costs are correctly allocated to cost accounts/work orders, review correct coding of requisitions, purchase orders, contracts, invoices, variations, reconciling costs to the General Ledger and investigating variances
  • Prepare regular internal and external project reports for management and customers respectively
  • Collaborate in the preparation of variation order requests / claims and relevant follow-up, assisting the Project Manager in the evaluation of changes as required
  • Facilitate and participate in lessons learnt sessions on project delivery and feedback to the responsible functions to ensure these are captured and acted upon to improve future project delivery
  • Assist project planning define and maintain detailed Work Breakdown Structures
  • Other relevant duties/task as assigned by Financial Planning and Analysis Manager

Qualifications & Experience:

  • ICAS/ACCA/CIMA Qualification is an advantage
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or Engineering is an advantage
  • Proven track record in a similar role (e.g. Lead Project Cost Engineer, Project Accountant etc.) and industry (e.g. Oil & Gas, engineering or manufacturing)
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience of ERP systems (e.g. Glovia, SAP, Oracle etc.)

  • Proper use of Business Systems and functional tools
  • Early identification of changes from plans
  • Accurate Reporting
  • Excellent analytical review skills
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time
  • Strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail
