The Opportunity
Senior Construction Delivery Manager, Hinkley Point C, Competitive Salary & Benefits
A new opportunity has arisen at EDF Energy within HPC, at this time we are recruiting for a Senior Construction Delivery Manager to support activities in the field relating to the construction of a designated section of the works and its onsite facilitation. Managing a team of Construction Delivery Managers the post is responsible for the day to day site supervision and direction of the works to safely and efficiently deliver the project. The requirements of this post will drive the works on site and ensure contractor performance is in line with agreed programme, this will include regular attendance at pre-start briefings and supporting delivery of key messages to the contractor's organisation.
Hinkley Point C is a nuclear site, based in West Somerset, 15 miles from Bridgwater. The NNB ambition is to build two major EPR nuclear plants, and the position will be part of HPC site construction team. Due to the scale of this project, the programme duration and the immovable completion date, the Senior Construction Delivery Manager should have experience in consistently delivering projects, safely to the right quality and on time.
The Senior Manager will be required to:
  • Review construction daily site logs to ensure information is reported to the required level of detail through the organisation to the ACL and report on any concerns.
  • Act as lead reviewer for safety related documents submitted by contract partners, collaborate with other reviewers to ensure the review process is completed and documents are returned to contract partners in a timely manner.
  • Oversee tactical logistics planning for individual works sections in support of the work completed on strategic logistics, thereafter, will be responsible for the detailed planning and implementation, in collaboration with the rest of the HPC Delivery Team and the Area Construction Lead.
  • Support the delivery of an area within a specific section of the Works, this responsibility extends to all construction and related activities, reporting to the Area Construction Lead and includes logistics planning and implementation in collaboration with the site wide logistics team, programming and planning, monitoring and close out of authorities' obligations and conditions and client liaison.
The Person
We are seeking an experienced Senior Construction Delivery Manager to proactively communicate/co-ordinate with site functions (H&S;, quality, surveillance, commercial, project controls, logistics) including other Senior Construction Delivery Managers to maintain good communication links, and ensure activity is well and timely reported. The successful candidate will be required to escalate concerns to the Area Construction Lead (ACL) and provide solutions to recover/mitigate, following dialogue with the contractor.
We're offering an opportunity to be part of EDF Energy's ambitions to provide support as a construction SME to other members of the project Emergency Response Team in the event of an emergency, undertake and record safety and/or assurance inspections to support the project HSPI's.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Fulfil line management responsibilities to CDMs which will include setting objectives, monitoring/managing performance and mentoring.
  • Act as a SME in their area, support contract partners in their delivery of works packages enabling efficient and timely delivery of their sections of works.
  • Regularly attend PLOD/PLOW meetings with contractors to ensure; short term planning is in line with the overall delivery schedule, outputs are recorded and areas of concern escalated to ACL for onward escalation.
  • Support Construction Delivery Managers by recommending measures to mitigate against safety and/or quality concerns, follow up by taking appropriate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to avoid the cessation of works. Includes reviewing documents, assurance audits, etc.
The Skills
Essential
  • Experience and knowledge in delivering projects with multiple stakeholders, including optioneering, construction sequencing, recovery planning and resource allocation.
  • Good understanding of the post holder's obligations under the CDM Regulations.
  • Able to write informative, concise and meaningful reports and present the findings in a professional way to peers and senior managers.
  • Experienced in motivating and energising contract partners by building an environment of trust and understanding, actively seeking alternative views and opinions.
  • Possess excellent organisation and communication skills.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Construction management, or equivalent vocational training and experience.
  • SMSTS or IOSH qualification holder.
  • Collaborate with other managers, providing leadership to effectively manage site operations.
  • Adopt a results-focussed mind set, using initiative and taking personal responsibility and accountability to ensure necessary action is taken to deliver excellence, value and quality.
  • Able to deliver results when working under pressure.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
