An opportunity has arisen for a Buyer to join us at Express Engineering, an Oil & Gas equipment manufacturer based in the North East of England. With 50 years of experience in machining and assembling critical subsea components and systems, we are a market leader in the specialised products we produce. Along with a salary of up to £38,000 per annum, the successful Buyer will also benefit from enhanced employer pension contributions, a generous contractual sick pay scheme, an employee assistance programme, 25 days holiday + bank holidays, a holiday purchase/sell scheme, and a sports and social club allowing access to an on-site gym & squash court. Reporting to the Purchasing Team Leader, the main duties of the Buyer will include:

• Checking, creating and maintaining Bills of Material within the MRP system
• Generating and maintaining RFQ's into the supply chain
• Sourcing and procuring materials, components and services to meet the business MRP and build plan needs
• Focussing on negotiating best lead times and pricing to suit contract and overall business needs
• Interacting with other Buyers to develop best practices and leverage spend commodities
• Controlling, managing and expediting all purchased items
• Taking responsibility and control for the addition of new supplier setup within the MRP System and associated internal sign-off requirements
• Updating internal MRP systems, plus supporting information in line with latest supplier feedback
• Understanding the business needs and external marketplace opportunities that can drive improvement
• Leveraging spend across all purchases within the business
• Risk assessing the business and suppliers to maintain a reliable and continuous supply
• Resolving process and / or supplier related issues, as escalated from the business, supply chain, sales and operations

• Demonstrable experience of working within a purchasing / sourcing role ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs. A good knowledge of Excel is essential

• Experience of purchasing materials in line with MRP/ERP requirements
• An understanding of engineering specification, Bill of Materials and drawings
• The ability to communicate at all levels
• Negotiation, customer service and consulting skills
