A new position for am experienced Controls Project Engineer leading engineering services company is urgently required due to upcoming projects. Many of the clients they work are in the energy / chemicals focusing on safety solutions that satisfy the critical nature of our customer s plant site and processes. Additionally they are involved in consulting in the field of systems engineering and general system design and panel build services.
Mainly office based with teamwork pivotal to the success of the company, there will be occasional requirement to attend meetings and provide pre/post commissioning support for systems at our customer s sites. Site visits would normally be within the UK but on rare occasions may require worldwide travel.
The role and responsibilities
- Manage PLC based system design and consultancy projects from point of sale, through initial design and manufacture, to site commissioning.
- Comfortable with occasional client site visits customer facing, great communication skills from a technical and commercial perspective, are essential.
- Responsible for a wide range of engineering design and project management tasks, with importance placed heavily on reading and interpreting technical documents to include industry standards, client specifications, P&IDs, logic diagrams.
- Confident user of general office software (e.g. Microsoft Word / Excel) for preparing various in-depth project related documentation. (e.g. Specifications / reports / calculations etc.).
- Critically review, and mark-up documents / drawings generated by others, providing constructive feedback.
- Supervision of workshop technicians is required during the system build of your own projects.
- Rigorously testing - so an ability to apply problem solving and analytical techniques, to plan and carry out appropriate system tests is needed.
Skills and Experiences
- HNC/ HND / Degree in relevant engineering discipline or equivalent
- Experience in PLC control system design and engineering
- Any experience from PLC client work in the Power Energy, chemicals petrochemical industries, power generation amongst other business sectors.
PLC configuration and application software development.
(e.g. ABB AC500 / 800xA HI, DeltaV SIS, Triconex, HIMA F60/HiQuad X,
Siemens S7-F (ESSENTIAL) , Allen Bradley GuardLogix) HMI / SCADA configuration. Industrial communications
- Architecture design and selection of protocols (Modbus, OPC etc.)
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Minor panel / wiring modifications
Desirable
- Clean UK Driving License may hep for site vists not essential
- Industrial Instrumentation experience
- Understanding of Burner Management, Emergency Shutdown, Fire & Gas Detection and other Process Control Systems
- Good working knowledge of the Functional Safety Standards BS EN 61508 / 61511
- Certified FS Engineer/Professional status welcomed
