LEAD INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN - PERMANENT ROLE (2:3 ROTATATION MOBILISING OUT OF NORWICH)
POSITION SUMMARY:
Participate as part of an integrated operations team, responsible to lead the execution of Instrumentation and Control Systems maintenance works, and associated activities, in a safe, timely and quality manner to maximise plant & equipment availability, maintain asset integrity, and achieve business objectives.
The Lead Instrument and Control Technician has a working charge-hand role and will actively engage in the prescribed activities required of an Instrument and Control Systems Technician.
Lead a team of discipline technicians, 3rd party contract personnel and vendors to undertake offshore Instrumentation and Control Systems maintenance & minor modification works.
Installation focal point for Instrumentation and Control Systems issues, providing guidance to the Installation Management Team, and liaising with onshore Discipline Engineers.
Ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System; request deviation waivers in accordance with Management of Change process.
HSE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner, in compliance and accordance with Cygnus Operations Integrity Management System, statutory Health and Safety Procedures, Maintenance Manuals, specific Working Instructions, Safe Systems of Work (Control of Work / Permit to Work), recommended Safe Working Practices and any temporary Bridging Documents in effect.
Conduct thorough pre-job risk assessments for all non-routine activities and ensure that they are accurately reflected in the Permit to Work system and documentation.
Conduct pre-job toolbox talks for all medium to high-risk activities.
Ensure that pre-job site inspections are undertaken for all works.
Ensure that all required Personal Protection Equipment is appropriately used.
Ensure all work party members, especially 3rd party personnel, fully understand the purpose of, and can use, required Emergency Response Equipment.
Manage workplace interfaces, ensuring all involved and potentially impacted personnel are fully aware of works planned, associated risks and mitigation measures in place.
Perform periodic Ex compliance inspections.
Participate in permit audits and worksite visits, as required.
Ensure compliance with established clean workplace practices.
Ensure that all incidents and accidents, near misses and non-conformances are fully reported, and any resultant corrective action required is fully implemented.
TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the Instrumentation maintenance team to undertake routine inspection, preventative servicing & minor adjustment of equipment.
Review planned, and corrective, maintenance work orders and ensure all preparations are fully undertaken before commencement of works.
Co-ordinate with production operations personnel for start-up and shut-down of process and utility systems, and warning of any interruption to Control, Shut-down or Fire & Gas systems.
Implement planned and corrective maintenance on equipment & systems, ensuring all works are carried out in compliance and conformance with company procedures.
Ensure safety critical equipment is maintained in compliance with procedures and regulations.
Oversee or undertake installation and commissioning of new equipment as required.
Ensure equipment and systems are reinstated to required condition and performance.
Liaise with onshore support engineer and vendor to ensure the software change control process is followed for all software interventions and modifications.
Undertake performance and condition monitoring and assessment.
Provide a source of technical expertise to diagnose, analyse and rectify faults to enhance maximum availability.
Manage first line support for IT, Telecoms issues.
Maintain comprehensive activity records and logs in CMMS.
Prepare fulsome report to document works completed and any actions/issues remaining.
Review all maintenance work orders for accuracy, consistency and quality of technical history.
Mark-up instrument drawings and single line diagrams to reflect 'as-built' status, and fully report modifications made to the equipment or systems to onshore discipline engineer.
Ensure instrumentation maintenance, calibration and certification records in maintenance system and Metering Equipment log books are maintained up to date.
Liaise with internal & external auditors for control, measurement or metering audits.
Liaise with onshore discipline engineers and other support resources to ensure adequate levels of support are provided in a timely manner.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and control the work activities of the Instrument maintenance team, under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor.
Supervise vendors, equipment specialists and maintenance contract personnel onsite.
Guide, train and coach Instrument Technicians in discipline and safe work practices.
Contribute to performance appraisal of subordinate technicians.
'Third party Expert Witness' for on-the-job Learning and Competence Assessment, as defined within the Company's Competence Management System.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Educated to minimum level of ONC or equivalent; HNC preferred.
Industry recognised apprenticeship in Instrument Maintenance.
Appropriate Vocational Qualification or Certification in Instrument Maintenance.
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Previous industrial experience in the oil & gas industry working as an Instrumentation Technician.
Experience in a senior role, leading a team of Control and Instrument Technicians.
Competence and experience in operation and maintenance, covering a selection of the following:
Facility instrumentation (inc. Fire and Gas systems)
DCS-ICSS Process Control (shut-down, start-up, control)
Turbine, engine, compressor and generator control and management systems
Information Technology (Hardware, Network, Software systems, Desktop apps)
Telecoms (Fibre optics, VSAT, Alarms, Digital V&D network, SOLAS, Radio)
Production and Environmental Metering systems
CMMS and Work Management Systems (MAXIMO)
Condition Based Monitoring
Planned Preventative and Condition Based Maintenance
Proven ability to lead and manage small teams, and supervise quality work execution.
