Manufacturing Engineering Manager (Engineered Products / Process Engineering)
Lincoln based role.
Position Overview / Purpose:
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager would be responsible for the supervision, direction & development of a team of Manufacturing Engineers / Manufacturing Engineering professionals (Project Engineers, NPD / NPI / R&D Engineers, Quality Engineers, Process Engineer etc), taking leadership & ownership of all engineered products projects, engineering & manufacturing processes, engineered manufacturing methods & procedures, to improve operating / output performance levels.
Main duties:
Engineering Project Management & deployment of new Engineering processes & new product introduction (NPI / NPD), including production validations, needs analysis & equipment selection.
Department: Manufacturing & Process Engineering
Reporting to: Plant Operations Manager
Direct reports: 6 (Engineers, Facilities Manager & Apprentices).
Hours: Days only, Mon - Friday 37.5 hrs, with flexibility (no shift work).
- Maintain approvals & processes for current products & investigate any non-conformances.
- Analysis of the manufacturing plants financial data, looking at profitability of work streams.
- involved in Interrogating & investigation Manufacturing value added (MVA) total estimation of net-output of all resident manufacturing activity units.
- Thermochemical, heat treatment & coating processes optimisation.
- Operational improvements, cycle time improvements & material costings control.
- Identify & mitigate risks to production, via robust process & equipment management.
- Maintain data insight driven focus, on the real Costs & real consequences of Poor Quality, working in unison with the Quality Management / QC department to deliver 5-star Quality.
- Support the Operations Strategy delivery, playing a key part in developing processes, plans & engineering staff to meet the strategic plans & aspirations of the business.
- Define, implement & develop LEAN / CI strategies within manufacturing engineering.
processes to improve working practices / efficiencies, in line with business & budget targets.
- Identify, justify & execute continuous activity projects, to meet annual productivity targets.
- Work with the manufacturing plant management team to ensure the manufacturing plant remains compliant to quality & regulatory requirements.
- Mentor, Coach, Lead the Engineering team + recruit, retain & develop Engineering talent.
Manufacturing Engineering Manager Attributes:
- Degree/HND/HNC in a relevant engineering / manufacturing discipline or equivalent.
- Experienced Engineering / Manufacturing Manager, or Supervisor with a technical process engineering mindset & the ability to lead an process Engineering team of 6, plus manage a Facilities Manager too.
- Coated products / Surface technologies knowledge (coated parts / protected surfaces & engineered parts).
- New Product Introduction & New Product Development experience (NPI / NPD / EPD)
- Used to working in a fast-paced engineering / manufacturing environment (critical)
- DFMA knowledge is useful (not a must)
- Technical Engineering professional, who can interpret & understand protective painted coating processes (spray painted / powder coated / lacquering) to a high standard.
- Ideally worked in an Aerospace, Automotive, Marine coated parts manufacturing / engineering or IGT industry previously, or similar.
- Oil/Gas/Petrochemical & Power Generation sector experience / knowledge (beneficial)
- Knowledge of Thermal spray applications & any associated technologies (an advantage)
- Knowledge of heat treatment in manufacturing (metal &/or alloys) & finishing technologies
- Some knowledge / experience in Nickel alloys & metallurgy (advantageous)
- LEAN Six Sigma skills (beneficial)
This is an ideal role for someone from a Manufacturing / Production Process Engineering Management background with previous exposure to protective coatings, painted coatings, heat treatment processes, nickel alloys, metallurgy & thermal treatment processes.
