Practice Area Profile

BCG's Energy practice helps companies navigate an increasingly complex business climate. The practice covers the Oil & Gas and Power & Utilities sectors. We also have deep knowledge in Energy transition and Sustainability, Energy Trading and Risk Management and Energy Engineering and Services. Our projects typically apply BCG's core consulting skills in functional areas such as, strategy, organization, M&A or performance improvement, but in the distinctive environment of Energy. We also address projects that touch upon more operational or technical challenges such as production optimization, offshore operating models, well performance or exploration & appraisal sequence. We work with the senior leaders of leading IOCs/NOCs, service providers, utilities, regulators and financial institutions.

The Energy Practice, and in particular our Oil & Gas and decarbonization activities are growing at a very fast pace. Energy work represents about 10% of BCG's global business volume. Worldwide over 300 Partners, Principals and Project Leaders focus on Energy, supported by a large group of Energy experienced and trained Consultants and Analysts, many with pre-BCG industry experience. We are well known for our long history of cutting-edge research and thought leadership. Consulting with BCG ensures you work on the biggest issues being tackled by senior management, with a wide variety of experiences across different clients, topics and geographies.

What You'll Do

Are you a talented professional with experience of Upstream Oil & Gas, or OilField services? Do you want to advise C-suite executives of leading IOCs / NOCs / Service companies on their most strategic topics? Are you driven to make a difference?

BCG is looking for experienced professionals to join our London team at the Senior Associate level within our Energy Practice Area, with a focus on E&P and decarbonization activities (for operators and service companies). We are looking for professionals with over 3 years' full-time experience working in roles with exposure to either operations, drilling, geosciences, or project engineering / EPCI, either currently working within consulting or working in the industry. We seek individuals who have excelled in previous roles, ideally a role in HQ and a role in a BU, and are looking for a new challenge. You will be working with professionals who have deep E&P expertise and together you will help leading companies in the sector.

- As a Senior Associate, you will work alongside case team members to help drive analysis.
- As you acquire successful experience on projects and assignments, you will be given end-to-end responsibility for the delivery of work streams and lead the presentation of your findings to the client.
- Senior Associates typically join BCG with 3-7 years of prior experience

What You'll Bring (Experience & Qualifications)

- At least 3 years' continuous work experience post-graduation in roles with knowledge of frontline E&P or OFSE work, for example:

Operations or drilling roles in the BU of an IOC/NOC

Wireline / Well testing / Drilling & Measurement / Field Engineer roles for a service company

Geoscience roles in the HQ or in a BU

- Strong academics (at least 2.1 or equivalent) from a top-tier institution

- A track record of leadership and achievement both in work and/or activities outside of work

- Excellent communication and persuasion skills and written and spoken English

- Excellent numerical skills, analytical and structured with the potential to conduct advanced quantitative analysis

- Solid business acumen, commercial capabilities and business judgement

- Flexible, curious, and able to propose innovative ideas

- Problem solving - able to take a creative and an hypothesis driven approach in order to solve complex problems

- Team player, open and positive in a group dynamic

- Driven, hard-working, entrepreneurial, proactive and productive

- The ability to demonstrate leadership, valuable contribution to a team, personal learning, evidence of outperforming peers and exceptional drive and commitment.

- Relevant experience of devising and implementing business strategies involving quantitative analysis, conceptualisation and communication of strategic solutions

- Active involvement in extra-curricular activities undertaken during studies
