Senior Data Analyst (Contract)

Role Purpose
Ofgem have recently announced the creation of new Regional Energy Strategic Planners who will be responsible for the development of strategic energy plans at the regional level, providing critical planning assumptions to inform system and network needs. These regional plans will aggregate top-down national targets and scenarios with local and regional insight. The FSO will be the delivery body for this role and as part of their creation we are spending time to understand the current energy landscape in each of the proposed regions - looking at the data currently available and helping to inform the establishment of the RESPs.
This role will involve supporting the development of a baseline view of the energy background in each of the proposed regions.
Key Deliverables:
- Create and maintain shapefiles for Local Authorities, Regional Energy Strategic Planner (RESP) areas, Electricity Distribution licence areas and Gas Distribution Licence areas.
- Create and maintain mappings from gas offtakes and supply points / Supply Points and electricity transmission system Direct Connects to Local Authority regions and Regional Energy Strategic Planner (RESP) areas.
- Support the development of a detailed background dataset that provides both the current energy background for the RESP areas and (where available) the forecast data out to 2050. This will be both supply and demand. It will also be multi-vector (gas, electricity and hydrogen).
- Support the development of geospatial visualisations to support disaggregation / aggregation of Future Energy Scenario (FES) data, mapped to RESP regions.
- Work with granular forecast data for the electricity and gas systems and compare ESO data with data produced by other network companies. This will lead to a comparison between the top-down national dataset disaggregation to RESP regions based on ESO data and a bottom-up regional dataset aggregation to RESP regions based on DNO (electricity) and GDN (gas) data.
- Complete desktop research on Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP) production - investigate data availability to form an LAEP-led forecast for the RESP regions. This will feed into understanding what the feedback loop looks like between LAEPs, regional energy scenario projections produced by distribution network companies and national energy scenario projections produced by ESO.
