The Tool Maker will play a crucial role in the manufacture, service, and repair of tools, assembly jigs, and fixtures. This position is integral to the development of new products and the ongoing support of existing products.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate various machine tools, including milling machines, lathes, grinders, and a range of hand tools.
  • Utilise precision measuring instruments for accurate work.
  • Manufacture, service, and repair tools, assembly jigs, and fixtures based on drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions.
  • Provide advice on tooling design and contribute to the maintenance and repair of existing production tools.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams, offering insights into tool design and assisting in reviewing/checking processes.
  • Manufacture tooling to support the assembly and testing of prototypes.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Prior tool room experience is preferable; however, a well-rounded background in a workshop environment is essential.
  • Solid understanding of mathematics and workshop practices, ideally to City and Guilds Engineering standard.
  • Working knowledge of welding (Gas, Mig, Tig, and Stick Welding is a plus but not essential).
  • Proficiency in the use of CNC machinery, lathes, grinding, milling, and other tool room machinery.
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings.
